Tomato Bun Burger

A unique take on the classic burger that uses ripe tomatoes as buns for a low-carb and refreshing change.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 ripe tomatoes for buns
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced red onion
  • Sliced pickles
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard

Instructions:

Preheat your grill or stovetop griddle over medium-high heat

While heating, season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then divide it into 4 equal portions and form them into burger patties

Slice the tops and bottoms off the ripe tomatoes to create tomato buns

Discard the tomato tops and bottoms or use them for another dish

Grill the burger patties for about 3-4 minutes per side or until they reach your desired level of doneness

During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and allow it to melt

While the patties are cooking, place the tomato buns on the grill for about 1 minute per side, just until they start to soften slightly and develop grill marks

To assemble the burger, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom tomato bun, followed by a cheese-topped burger patty

Add sliced red onion and pickles on top of the patty

Spread ketchup and mustard on the top tomato bun, then place it on top of the burger to complete the sandwich

Serve your Tomato Bun Burger immediately, and enjoy!
